Meeting Claudia Pereira is truly a pleasure, just as it is listening to her talk about music, art, and business. The paths of El RUIDO crossed with hers in Buenos Aires in 2022, when she was participating in a business roundtable, representing an artist as part of another project. The surprise came later, when we discovered that Claudia was the same friend that Gerardo had often mentioned while sharing his insights about the music industry.

Thus, Claudia’s name immediately comes to mind when we discuss the entertainment industry, especially the music sector.

This is due, primarily, to her international presence, and furthermore, because we both know her well. We are aware of how skillfully she navigates this environment. But above all, it is her serious and professional approach to work that stands out—something rare to find in the field.

In this interview with Claudia Pereira, the conversation went far beyond the expected. After two hours of open discussion, we explored a wide range of topics, from the things we believe in to what we question. We reflected on what needs to change in the industry, what we ourselves should improve, and what others in the field must reconsider.

💻 About our PROCESS

The interview took place in March 2024 after gathering names that will surely enjoy future SOUNDS. It was a big surprise to meet from such distant places, yet feel so close.

We conducted the virtual interview, which extended over more than three Zoom sessions. It might seem obvious, but a nonprofit project always works with demo, trial, freeware, and open-source tools. Zoom offered us an excellent tool in its free version, far superior to the competition. By the time of the interview with Claudia, we were still testing different services before deciding which one would become our go-to platform for interviews. Zoom remains our choice.

This time, Gerardo made the selection and the first cut, trimming almost 150 minutes of conversation down to 120 minutes using Audacity for Mac. Afterward, a second round of editing was done for cleaning, equalization, and necessary adjustments to level the microphones in Ableton Live, creating a stereo track. Finally, we did precise editing in Ocenaudio for Windows 10, bringing the master down to 1 hour and 20 minutes.

The editing process was linear, without a script. The questions came up naturally as the conversation progressed. In essence, the interview is a continuation of previous conversations between people who know each other well, even if they’ve only met a few times in real life.

In the end, the editing wrapped up at two hours. A conversation that makes us pause at red lights but drives us forward until we get the green light. Unfortunately, the cultural industries in Latin America do not function as true industries but as blank checks from the current governments, regardless of their color or banner. As we chew on our conclusions, we reflect on our colonialist mindset, realizing that in order to break free from it, we need to stop creating playlists to educate others on “where they should go” and stand on equal footing, as we’ve decided to do ourselves.
